NWBW Mission The Mission of the National Women Bowling Writers is to bring together those who promote and publicize the game of American Tenpins, to offer our members opportunities for personal and professional growth, achievement and recognition, and to provide services and benefits that our members value. We focus our efforts in these areas: Our Charitable Endeavor The International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame The International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame in St. Louis, Missouri is home to the NWBW historical volumes. Through 2002, NWBW has donated more than $48,000 to the Museum and Hall of Fame. Each state will be asked to donate a character doll, sculpture or some sort of memorabilia representative of L. Frank Baum’s creations, for our International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame charity raffle. Most of us grew up with and feel we know these characters as portrayed by Judy Garland, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, Bert Lahr and others in the 1939 movie. We are all looking forward to reliving our childhood memories when we meet in Wichita, Kansas. If you need information - contact Helen by Phone (541) 672-1151 same for Fax + *51. NWBW Goals

A Brief History NWBW was organized on April 18, 1948 in Dallas, Texas. "The primary purpose will be the promotion and circulation of material to aid writers in their work and to help increase interest in the bowling game among women throughout the nation." Wrote Mrs. Lola Yoakem, the first President and dreamer of the organization. There were 10 charter members. The strength of NWBW then, and now is in the effectiveness of its grass roots members who continue to do much to communicate the story of bowling to local bowlers. Women Bowling Writers Fly First Flag
Amazing as it may seem, the National Women Bowling Writers who abound with all kinds of documentation of events and honored members, have never had an official flag.
As an artist and bowler, Sharon, who is a member of the Santa Barbara, California WBA, knows how to bring out the perfect picture in representing an organization. The beautiful flag is elegant, simple in its design and color and definitely shouts National Women Bowling Writers.
All was not simple. There was a time crunch and all of this was being done unknown to retiring WIBC President Joyce Dietch as a part of her honor. When the flag was complete and Sharon was asked to approve the final product - she was not satisfied! The flag went back and a week later was delivered to her specifications. Perfect. It was immediately sent on to the flag ceremony chairman and as yet - no one had actually seen it!
Finally, President Bacon went to "flag practice" and got the first glimpse of our flag. Awesome. When the time finally came for the flag procession, she carried it in with pride as she whipped the beauty around the corner to its resting place among ABC, BPAA, 500 Club, 600 Club, etc. and now, somehow, the National Women Bowling Writers feel complete.
